If you’re new to the world of investing, you may be wondering whether or not stock prices can ever double in a single day. It turns out that stocks can and do often double in a day.
Every day over about 45 different stocks doubles in price. However, it doesn’t mean that it’s happening for fundamental reasons. Instead, when the stocks are doubling, they are often being manipulated. While these stocks double in a single day, the price will often fall hard and fast.
Today we’ll examine what happens when a stock doubles in a day and discuss how you can be prepared to take advantage of a possible opportunity when it presents itself.

Stocks That Went Up 100% or More in a Day
The market is full of stocks that went up 100% or more in a single day. This happens pretty frequently, but as I mentioned in the introduction, this often means that something is going on behind the scenes.
In addition, when the stocks rise so dramatically, they also fall very quickly. What all this means is that it may not be the best option to invest in stocks that are rising so quickly.
In addition, the stocks that are doubling overnight usually can’t be planned ahead of time. This can make it difficult for investors to decide where they want to go with the stock.
Still, it’s helpful information, so let’s look at some examples of stocks that went or are expected to double in a day.
Example 1. AMD Stock
Advanced Micro Devices, also known as AMD, has overtaken the market. This high-tech company is the creator of multiple performance computing and visualization products.
In May 2021, this stock was on everyone’s mind when it managed to double overnight.
What happens in a situation like this is that, for whatever reason, people begin to find the stock to be enormously valuable for a certain amount of time. In this case, AMD either found a way to add value to their stock, or the stock was manipulated in some way or another.
Now let’s look at a stock expected to rise throughout the next year.
Example 2. Cellectar Biosciences (CLRB)
This is a biotech stock that many people believe has explosive potential to double. The company is currently working on developing various drug compounds.
This stock currently has a relatively small float, but it is expected to rise dramatically within the next few months and take off in ways other companies won’t be able to follow.
Many other biotech companies are also in this same state.
What Causes a Stock To Double in a Day?
When a stock doubles in a day, it’s usually not because it naturally did so. Most of the time, there are other factors involved. One of the biggest factors influencing whether or not stocks rise quickly is the reverse stock split.
A reverse stock split is a form of stock manipulation used by companies that currently have low share prices and want to increase their prices.
Companies choose to do this for multiple reasons, such as if they are concerned that their shares may be delisted because of a low price. They may also choose this route if they want to gain more market respect.
Let’s look at an example of a reverse stock split. Let’s say we are looking at a reverse one-for-five split. In this case, there are 10 million shares that are currently priced at about $0.50 each.
When the reverse stock split takes place, the 10 million shares become 2 million because we are looking at a one-for-five split. Then those two million shares end up skyrocketing in price to $2.50 per share.
If this doesn’t make a lot of sense, don’t worry. There’s a lot to understand about this. The basics are that the numbers always have to even out in a reverse stock split.
When a company wants to raise its stock prices, they simply decrease the number of stocks they have and raise the price of those stocks. The price-to-share ratio still stays the same.
The common population isn’t often aware that this is happening, and so they immediately invest in stocks that are doubling overnight, believing that they will continue to do so.
Sometimes, the stocks double because of a fundamental change; in this case, they will often continue to rise.
However, more often than not, this isn’t the case. When this does happen, it’s usually because the company has found some massive way to add value to the community. Typically this doesn’t happen overnight, however. Instead, it takes place over a few months.
However, when it finally takes place, it can appear to be overnight. This is why so many people rush to purchase these stocks.
Is It a Good Idea To Purchase Stocks That Are Doubling in a Single Day?
Overall, it depends on you and what you feel like in terms of risk and reward. However, studies show that normally when stocks double very quickly, they also fall very quickly.
This means that if you choose to invest in a stock that has doubled very quickly, it can be expected that it will also decrease in price fairly quickly, and the same goes for cryptocurrencies!
This can take a bit of money out of your pocket, particularly if you’re new to the investing world. With this in mind, purchasing these stocks is probably not the best idea. While stocks can make fairly quick cash, they usually aren’t an overnight get-rich-quick scheme. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Conclusion
Stocks can double or even more than double in a single day. In fact, this happens all the time. Every day, more than 45 stocks are doubling in price.
It’s important to remember, however, that the reason for this isn’t always because the stock actually rose in value. Instead, companies are regularly manipulating their stocks so that people will suddenly invest in them. Usually, this is done through a reverse split.
If you’re new to investing, it’s best to watch trends over time and not jump into purchasing stocks that are skyrocketing overnight.
